Conservation Section

The conservation Laborartory in Rampur Raza Library was established in February 1995 in recognition to proper care of its rich collections of art. The laboratory was founded by the efforts of Dr. W.H Siddiqui (O.S.D ) who was much concerned about the preservation of the priceless collection. As the materials of the collections are composed of primarily organic materials which usually deteriorate with the passage of time. The core function of the laboratory is to provide conservation and restoration services adopting highly developed scientific techniques. The objects pieces of art are vulnerable. The conservators in the laboratory are responsible for the care and restoration of manuscripts, paintings, maps, historical documents, architectural drawings, B/W photographs and old rare printed books. All conservation are undertaken to prolong the life of the objects by stabilization, repair, paper washing, de-acidification, filling of losses, consolidation, removal of old acidic boards, removal of adhesives, stain reduction, attached lining, falttening etc. The conservation activities are undertaken by conservators under the following preservation principles respecting the integrity of the original object reversibility of the treatment with minimal intervention, full documentaion of the treatment
